Contemporary Architects Serving Kent And Sussex

JHD Architects was started in 2001 by Tim Ball, in collaboration with Sevenoaks architect Jon Hughes with whom Tim had already worked with for several years. Tim and Jon work together on all projects and have over 65 years’ experience between them. They are supported by a virtual team of architectural associates.

Before teaming up with Jon, Tim ran a successful South London practice. His clients included Scott’s of Mayfair Restaurants and Clubs, various GPs wanting surgery ‘make-overs’ and the NHS, for which he designed an award-winning Walk In Centre at St. George’s Hospital, Tooting. He also put basements under and extensions onto a large number of Victorian houses!

Passionate about contemporary architecture and music, Tim is an expert in the use of 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM) software that speeds up the building process and reduces costs. As well as designing in BIM, he advises others on implementing BIM to improve productivity and deliver better buildings. He is an advanced user of a BIM authoring software called Archicad and has spoken regularly at ArchiCAD Summer Schools in Cardiff and Liverpool, The Building Centre and RIBA South East Region events, and authored a chapter for the RIBA’s book “Innovative BIM in Small Practice”. He also lectures on the advanced use of Archicad as part of the Masters of Archicad programme.

From our Tunbridge Wells office we cover all of Kent and East Sussex including Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Wadhurst, Edenbridge, Robertsbridge, Cranbrook, Hawkhurst, Heathfield, Bexhill, Rye, Etchingham and Battle.

Jon studied Architecture at Cardiff University and Liverpool College of Building and is passionate about art, architecture and music. He first established a practice on Merseyside, which went on to launch offices in the Middle East, Spain and eventually London, serving a wide range of residential, education, healthcare, tourism and leisure-industry clients. He also carried out consultancy work in Canada where he was involved in Federal infrastructure projects, schools, social housing and North American Indian Community Centres.

Jon eventually settled in Sevenoaks where his inspirational designs quickly won him a loyal following. He runs the Sussex office that serves clients in West Kent, East and West Sussex.
